Knowing when to replace your tires boils down to two simple words: safety first. Keeping track of your tread depth and the age of the tire are two important factors in determining if they’re still safe and road-ready.

The best way to stay on top of it is to have your tires inspected regularly. Swing by Belle Tire and one of our trained technicians can look for any physical warning signs, low pressure, or signs of aging.

What tires does my vehicle need?

Your vehicle’s owners manual and placard on the driver’s side door will have the relevant info you need to find the recommended tire specs: width, aspect ratio, rim size, speed rating and load index. Other factors to consider are your driving style and climate conditions.

What tires are best for my driving style?

First, let’s determine the type of driving you do. The following questions will help you figure out which tire best meets your needs. Are you a daily commuter on the highway or just running local errands in town? Do you want to feel the handling through every corner or do you prefer to use cruise control? What type of road surfaces are you traveling on: smooth pavement, gravel or dirt?

What weather conditions do I drive in?

The type of climate you live and drive in will help determine the type of tires you need. In warmer, drier climates, you may not need to worry about winter traction. But in colder climates where the temperature often drops below 45 degrees, you may want to consider two sets of tires. Having a set of winter tires will provide noticeable advantages in these conditions, even when compared to the best all-season tires.

Should I replace 2 or 4 tires?

As a general rule, we usually recommend replacing all four tires at the same time. However, sometimes you may only need to replace two of your tires. If this is the case, we recommend mounting the new tires on the rear axle. This will add traction and increase the overall safety of your vehicle.

How can I make my money go farther?

A first glance, it might seem like the best value tire is the one that costs less. But instead of looking at up-front costs, it might be worth looking at the cost over time. When we break down the cost-per-mile, a higher quality tire might end up being the better value. Not to mention improved ride quality, superior handling and enhanced safety. Depending on your driving habits, spending a bit more now could save you money down the road.
