Find a safe spot

  • Safely move your vehicle to a secure location away from traffic. Activate your hazard lights to alert others.

Gather the tools

  • Make sure you have a spare tire, jack, lug wrench, and owner's manual readily available.

Assess the damage

  • Inspect the tire to determine if it can be temporarily repaired with a tire repair kit or if it requires replacement with a spare tire.

Jack up the vehicle

  • Consult your owner's manual to locate the proper jacking points and raise the vehicle using the jack.

Remove the flat tire

  • Loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench, lift the flat tire off the wheel hub, and store the lug nuts safely.

Install the spare tire

  • Align the spare tire with the wheel hub, push it on, and hand-tighten the lug nuts.

Tighten the lug nuts

  • Using a lug wrench, securely tighten the lug nuts in a star or crisscross pattern without over-tightening.

Check tire pressure

  • Verify the spare tire's pressure with the recommended PSI from the owner's manual, using a portable air compressor if necessary.
