Move over Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile® there’s a new signature automobile in town and this one doesn’t get soggy when wet! L.L. Bean has created the “Bootmobile,” a Ford F-250 Super Duty truck with a 20 foot long and 13 foot high rubber boot replica affixed to its exterior, modeled after L.L. Bean’s signature item, the waterproof boot.
Made of a leather upper and rubber bottom, L.L. Bean’s signature boot, was the first item created by Leon Leonwood Bean in 1912. The product would go on to launch the Freeport, Maine based business that now brings in nearly 2 billion dollars a year in sales.
The Bootmobile will traverse the country throughout the year to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of L.L. Bean’s founding. In case you should happen to see it during its trek, here are a few interesting facts you can whip out to impress your friends.
Bootmobile Facts:
- The entrance and exit to the boot is in the heel.
- To provide for maximum visibility and clearance, a camera is strategically placed at the top and rear of the boot.
- The laces aren’t made of actual shoelaces but of mooring rope that could tow over 100,000 pounds.
After a stop in New York City’s Time Square, the route the Bootmobile will be taking for the rest of 2012 is still being finalized but we will be sure to let you know if it’s headed our way! What do you think of the Bootmobile? Do you own a pair of the iconic boots?
